UK director Ken Loach, who is a regular awards winner at global cinematic events, is set to be honored at Karlovy Vary Festival in the Czech Republic.
The UK helmer as well as his longtime screenwriting partner Paul Laverty who together have influenced the history of British cinema will be presented with Crystal Globes for Outstanding Contribution to World Cinema.
Movies directed by Loach often have strong humanitarian messages with one of the latest on the list, ‘I, Daniel Blake’, winning Cannes 2016 Palme d'Or for best film and UK-based BAFTA award. The polemical flick is about UK cruel social welfare.
Loach studied law at St. Peter’s College, Oxford. After a brief period working in theatre, in the early 1960s he began working as a television director. He created numerous outstanding titles – Land and Freedom (1995) and The Wind That Shakes The Barley (2006), which earned him a Palm d’Or at Cannes.
Paul Laverty has written the script for twelve feature and two short films directed by Ken Loach.
The 52th edition of Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will be held on June 30-July 8, 2017.
